Description:
André Campra (1660-1744), a native of Aix-en-Provence in southern France, was a born theater lover and music director at Notre-Dame Cathedral, but he eventually turned his attention to composing music for the stage. The cantata recorded here is also a dramatic work that incorporates the same techniques as an opera, albeit on a smaller scale since it is performed in a nobleman's mansion. This is an unquestionable recording with excellent singers, including French Baroque authority William Christie and renowned countertenor Dominique Vis. Includes Japanese obi and commentary. Domestic edition.
