The 3rd Confidensen Festival presents a double bill opera by Blow and Purcell. The oldest existing opera theater in Sweden, Confidensen (Ulriksdal Palace Theater), was established in the mid-18th century in the Stockholm suburb of Sorena. This is a video of the main program of the 3rd Confidensen Festival held at the theater in the summer of 2021, featuring the operas "Venus and Adonis" and "Dido and Aeneas" by John Brough and Henry Purcell. Dido and Aeneas, a representative of early English Baroque opera, is said to have been inspired by Purcell's Venus and Adonis (the oldest surviving English opera with a complete score) by John Brough, one of Purcell's musical teachers. In this production, Swedish soprano Ida Lenslöv and Norwegian baritone Bernd Aura Vorngårn will play the title roles in elegant period costumes in these two operas, both based on Greek mythology, and will show what Purcell inherited from his teacher Blow and how he developed and deepened them. Both performers beautifully portray what Purcell inherited from his mentor Blow and how he developed and deepened the Greek mythology.Under the baton of Ulof Boman, a newcomer to the world of ancient music performance who hails from Sweden and will be music director of the Confidensen Festival from 2019, the orchestra led by renowned violinist Peter Spišský fills the cozy rococo style theater with ancient elegant sounds.
