19th Century French cruche from Provence having a honey yellow glaze, two handles, a spout, and the original lid, circa 1880s. Traditionally used to keep water cool in the house or in the fields, these French pitchers were only half glazed as they would have been stored in the ground. The beautiful warm patina of this antique water pitcher developed over the passage of time and with the help of the hot Provençal sun. The imperfections are a testament to its utilitarian history and frequent use. A classic French piece with the original lid, which is very uncommon to find and very collectible. We have a large selection of antique French confit pots. Contact us for more pictures or information.
