The straight cut offer easy fitting (unless your very curvy - it may not suit) and is designed to be worn with a belt if you need to pull the waist in a little. They are not super high in fit or tight – in fact size up if you want a looser fit and sinch with the belt or wear them lower on the hip.  They look great with sneakers or a heel.
