unThis is a genuine silk kimono. Not vintage, modern (post-2000). It was bought new in Japan by my brother on a business trip and given to our mother as a gift a few years ago. It has never been worn and has lived in her cedar closet in the interim. It's got all the original folds. 

The kimono is jet black with a red, white, and yellow floral medallion design. The lining fabrics are deep golden yellow and pink and appear to be cotton.

The fabric is thick and substantial, not thin and slinky. It's a high-quality item and feels really good.

The only "flaw" I can see is what looks to be a water mark on the interior lining (see composite photo lower left). It's very faint and it must have been there when the kimono was purchased as it's never been anywhere but a dry, cedar closet in the intervening few years. I suspect whatever it is will disappear with the first cleaning, although it is completely invisible when worn.
