Ann Demeulemeester graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1981. In 1986, Demeulemeester and six fellow Belgian graduates - including Dries Van Noten - showcased their collections in London. This group went on to be known as the Antwerp Six, known in fashion circles for their deconstructivist tailoring and avant-garde aesthetics; their work is highly collectable from this period.
This early 1990s soft silk-velvet jacket hints at the minimalist, gothic style that Demeulemeester became known for. Tailored to a long-line silhouette, it is single-breasted and is secured with three grey-black plastic buttons. It is only softly structured, with relaxed loose sleeves and a laid-back, slim body. There are two patch pockets at the hips. At the back, the waist is pulled in and ruched to create a slightly more feminine shape. This jacket is fully lined with black satin.
This highly wearable jacket is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It is made from 82% Rayon, 18% Silk. It is labelled an Italian size 42, UK 10, but sizes can vary between brands so please check the measurements closely. The fabric has no stretch. Our model is a UK 8-10 US 4-6 and 5'9". This jacket fit her perfectly.
