Fyne Audio F501S Floorstanding Speakers

The F501S is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker from Fyne Audio's S Series — built around a 150mm IsoFlare point-source driver with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, a dedicated 150mm bass driver, and a downfiring BassTrax Tractrix port. Frequency response extends from 36Hz to 34kHz, sensitivity is 90dB, and the recommended amplifier power range is 30–150W. Available in Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Piano Gloss Black, the F501S offers the same IsoFlare driver and real wood veneer finish options as the F500S standmount in a full-size floorstanding enclosure with an additional dedicated bass driver for deeper low-frequency extension.

The 2.5-way configuration is the key difference between the F501S and the F500S. The additional 150mm bass driver crosses in at 250Hz, leaving the IsoFlare driver to operate over a more focused frequency range — from 250Hz upwards through the midrange and treble. This division of labour is what gives the F501S its 36Hz bass extension alongside the imaging precision that a point-source driver provides in the mid and treble.

IsoFlare Driver Technology

The IsoFlare driver combines the bass/midrange cone and the high-frequency compression tweeter on a shared axis — the tweeter fires from the centre of the bass/midrange cone — so both drivers radiate sound from the same point in space. This point-source behaviour produces consistent time alignment across the listening area and off-axis coherence that a conventional separated-driver arrangement cannot replicate.

In the F501S, the IsoFlare driver is a 150mm multi-fibre cone unit with FyneFlute roll surround, paired with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter and neodymium HF magnet. The same driver appears in the F500S standmount — the two speakers share identical midrange and treble voicing, with the F501S adding the dedicated bass driver below for greater low-frequency reach and dynamic headroom.

BassTrax and Port System

The downfiring port connects to a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser integrated into the plinth. The Tractrix profile maintains a consistent expansion angle as bass energy leaves the port, reducing reflections and smoothing the transition between port output and room. In a floorstander of this size, the downfiring port arrangement is particularly useful — bass exits through the base rather than the rear panel, which gives the F501S better immunity to rear-wall boundary effects than a conventional rear-ported floorstander.

Presence Control

A rear-facing presence switch provides ±3dB adjustment between 2.5kHz and 5.0kHz. This is a practical tool for adapting the F501S to different rooms and partnering equipment without external equalisation — useful in particular when the speaker is placed closer to side walls or in rooms with more reflective surfaces.

Cabinet Construction

The cabinet is high-rigidity MDF with extensive internal bracing. The three finish options — Black Oak and Natural Walnut real wood veneers, and Piano Gloss Black — match the F500S standmount, allowing a visually consistent system when the two are used together.

Who Is It For?

The F501S suits a listener who wants the IsoFlare point-source experience in a full-size floorstander at a price that does not require the commitment of the SP range. The 90dB sensitivity and 8Ω impedance are easy for most integrated amplifiers; 30 watts is workable, though 50–100 watts is more comfortable for the full dynamic range the speaker offers. The real wood veneer finishes make it appropriate for living room installation where appearance matters alongside performance.

For those who want more bass extension and a larger IsoFlare driver, the F502S is the natural next step — using a 200mm IsoFlare driver and reaching down to 30Hz. Those building a cinema system around the F501S should consider the F500S LCR as a matched centre channel. The F701SP standmount and the Fyne Audio SuperTrax super tweeter are worth considering for those who want to step further up the Fyne Audio range.
