The old fashioned and new Altheas or Rose of Sharon provide summer long color on a vase shaped shrub when young maturing to a rounded habit. Many of these are heirloom or pass-a-long plants that are common to our ancestors landscapes but are still a staple of our gardens. Many of the newer cultivars are sterile and or have larger flowers. Provide an average to well-drained soil with average moisture and moderate to high fertility in a full to mostly sunny position for optimum health and flowering. Many are surprised to learn that these are hardy Hibiscus too! Hardiness Zones - 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
