Most Hawker Hunter variants, including the F.Mk.6A depicted here, were powered by a single Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet. XF418 began life as an F.Mk.6 but was upgraded to FGA.Mk.9 standard with additions like a tail parachute, earning it the F.Mk.6A designation. Initially serving with the Air Force Defence School, it joined No.1 Tactical Weapons Unit at RAF Brawdy in October 1976—a unit formed in 1974 to succeed No.229 OCU. XF418 remained in service at Brawdy until its withdrawal and scrapping in 1985.
