Ultramarine was once a sacred luxury. It was carved from Afghan mountains and valued above gold. It is an absolute frequency: a superior refraction of light that pushes the color gamut to its limit. By absorbing long-wave light so profoundly, the blue appears to emanate from within.
Monolith begins with macro photography of clustered PB29, synthetic ultramarine blue pigments. The physical pigment is captured, then pushed through algorithmic loops and digital refinement. The additive process marries the laws of physics with the rules of code, introducing new patterns and fracture. It observes how the colour behaves under pressure before the final state is translated back into the physical world through archival, pigment ink printing on fine art paper.
