This is Kato 176-8503 N SD70ACe NS Heritage Lakwanna #1074. The SD70ACe is the latest in the line of EMD's ''70'' locomotives, an evolution of the SD70MAC, although its radiator design harkens more to that of the SD80/90 body. The SD70ACe has been designed to fit the latest EPA standards and regulations, and sports 4300 horsepower.
In 2012, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Norfolk Southern painted a total of 20 locomotives (10 SD70ACe’s) into commemorative schemes that honored the railroads that had merged over the years to form modern day NS. The Lakwanna Railroad originally ran from the Lackawanna Valley in Pennsylvania west to Buffalo, N.Y., north to Lake Ontario, and east to Hoboken, N.J. and operated until the 1960’s when it merged into the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.
