Anne Klein got her start in 1937, working for Varden Petites, where she made her first mark on American fashion moving Juniors clothing away from child-like styles, into smaller versions of contemporary clothing that women at the time were wearing. She moved to create her own line in 1940 with her husband, Ben Klein, that would be the first modern and sophisticated line that catered to young women. By 1950 she was had a breakthrough designing mix and match separates that allowed the average woman to wear her pieces multiple ways - a revolutionary concept at the time. Her brand, Anne Klein and Company, was officially created in 1968 and she would sketch her iconic lion logo drawing inspiration from her Leo zodiac sign. Two years later in 1970 she, in partnership with Saks Fifth Ave, opened up the first stand alone designer store, called Anne Klein Corner, paving the way for more designers to have their own boutiques. In 1973 she was the only woman to participate in the Battle of Versailles, a fashion show organized in the then crumbling palace to raise money for its renovation. This dress came from her line in the 1990s, where she was focused on transitional clothing for the working woman - pieces that could be worn day into night. It features a contemporary eye print graphic on silk, and has a mini length.
